Foreign Accent Modification
 If English is not your native language, other people may not clearly understand your speech because of your foreign accent. An accent can be charming and defines who you are. But it is problematic if others cannot grasp
what you are trying to explain. When you speak another language, various aspects, such as intonation, rate, voice projection, grammar, and idiomatic expressions are affected. As a result, people frequently are not focusing on what you are saying, but how you re saying it. It also takes more effort and energy to listen to someone speaking with an accent.
To reach your career potential, you need to have satisfactory verbal communication skills. Regardless of your original language, you can significantly modify your accent. As a result you will be able to communicate more effectively, relate more easily with clients, patients, supervisors, employees or colleagues, engage in social conversations, speak more clearly on the telephone, and improve the effectiveness of your presentations.
To accomplish this, both private and group instructions are offered. Each participant will take part in an initial interview and create a tape recording of his or her speech for a personal speech analysis. This tells us exactly how your pronunciation varies from standard American English and identifies specific areas for concentration. After this assessment, a completely individualized learning program is designed. Depending on your needs, instruction will assist you with pronunciation, intonation, inflection, pitch, voice projection speaking rate, complete word production and grammar. Plus, by learning the basic sounds and principles of American English, you’ll have the tools to master even the most specialized technical or scientific terminology. Reducing a foreign accent takes hard work and dedication. It cannot be done in the classroom alone. You will be given practice material in addition to working independently with recorded personal practice exercises either on tape and/or CD-ROM. You will also receive relevant assignments for using your new speaking skills in everyday life.
You can expect far more than just classroom hours, materials and guidance. Both the participants and those who work with them should hear a 50-70 % improvement in English pronunciation. The improvement will be audible on the tape-recorded re-evaluation that ends the sessions. Attendees will receive a certificate when they complete the program that will document their communication improvement for pronouncing English as a second language. The best reward will be the positive feedback others give you and the speaking confidence gained from your accent reduction training.
